Free Speech on Campus
In this lecture, Chemerinsky will explore the concept of free speech on university campuses and what it means for students, faculty and staff. Chemerinsky will draw upon his many years of expertise and experiences as an educator, a leader in higher education and as a lawyer who has litigated high profile cases about speech on campus. Chemerinsky will identify what campuses can and can’t do to protect frees peech, while also safeguarding their students, faculty and staff. In addition to providing clarification of the law, Chemerinsky will also share examples from his own work and provide a “from the trenches” firsthand experience, in the hopes of encouraging dialogue.
